Los Angeles (July 10, 2009)

Driving around Los Angeles: Beverly Hills, Santa Monica, Venice Beach, Mulholland Drive, and Hollywood Sign.

Santa Monica and Hollywood

After eating a typically American breakfast: pan-cakes, waffles... we drove to the further areas. First we went to Beverly Hills and Bel Air, two affluent residential communities in the hills of Los Angeles. Luxurious cars in the streets let guess how beautiful are villas hidden behind imposing gates.

Then we drove to Santa Monica beach, one of the most famous beaches of the Greater Los Angeles Area. There we were in front of a vast beach with lifeguard cabins bordering the sea. First we went to Santa Monica Pier and had lunch in Bubba Gump restaurant; inside everything remind the film Forrest Gump.
Then we went along the beach toward Venice Beach. The atmosphere was totally different, whereas Santa Monica seems to be more for families, Venice Beach is younger and more eclectic. To finish we swam in the Pacific Ocean.

Leaving the coast we drove to Hollywood Sign via Mulholland Drive which follows the ridgeline of Hollywood Hills and offers nice viewpoints on Los Angeles. We took a road which seemed to lead to Hollywood Sign. Unfortunately we reached a gate, only few meters before the famous sign; it was impossible to move forward. Well, we took pictures from the gate.

Finally we drove down to Hollywood. A last drive on boulevards, a last restaurant, the following day would be time to leave.
