Toward Page (July 4, 2009)
Road toward Page, swimming in Lake Powell and visiting Horseshoe Bend.
Lake Powell and Horseshoe Bend
We left Mexican Hat at 9 am and went through Najavo Country again. We needed around 3 hours to reach Page. Following advices from hotel owner, we went to Lone Rock beach, around 10 miles away from Page. Nevertheless we were very disappointed with this place: it is full of 4X4, caravans and RV because of the National Day. It was preferable to leave.
During a stop at the visitor center, a ranger told us the way to a little calm beach located west to Wahweap Marina. We enjoyed the place resting on rocks and jumping into the lake.
Then we went to Horseshoe Bend, a horseshoe-shaped meander of the Colorado River near Page. From the road it is needed to walk around 20 minutes to reach the fantastic viewpoint; where the dark green of the river contrasts with red rocks around.
